South Asian Centre for
Teacher Development

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) promotes international collaboration in Education, Sciences, culture, and communication in order to increase universal respect for Justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the United Nations Charter  

While promoting the programs related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Sri Lanka National Commission of UNESCO   based on the Ministry of Education, focuses much on SDG 4 Quality Education giving due regard to SDG4 and SDG4C and identifying the urgent need of qualified and Quality teachers in the South Asian Region in 2012 

Upcoming Events - 2025

Activities:
 Appointment of AB members based on an approved composition and roles document.
 Identification and invitation of prominent South Asian education experts for RAP.
 Inaugural meeting to outline priorities and responsibilities.
 Development of frameworks for research, training programs, and publications.

Activities:
 Design and refinement of survey tools in line with international best practices.
 Collaboration with foreign missions for data collection.
 Analysis of survey data and publication of a comprehensive report with recommendations.

Activities:
 Finalization of MIL curricula.
 Regional advertisement of the course.
 Pilot implementation in selected South Asian institutions.
 Hybrid learning rollout for greater accessibility.

Signing a Tripartite MoU Timeline: February – March
Activities:
 Develop and finalize MIL programs in collaboration with IGNOU and UNESCO South Asian
Regional Office.

Activities:
 Development and finalization of survey tools.
 Sample identification with Ministry of Education assistance.
 Survey implementation and dissemination of results.

Activities:
 Approval of curricula.
 Pilot implementation in selected institutions.
 Hybrid learning rollout for broader reach.

 Survey implementation and result dissemination.

 SEL program implementation.

 Call for research papers by April 2025.
 Evaluation and selection of 20 presentations.
