MGIEP and SACTD Join Forces to Enhance Teacher Education in South Asia

MGIEP and the South Asian Center for Teacher Development (SACTD) are excited to announce an advanced programme designed specifically for Teacher Educators in the South Asian region. This initiative features two essential short courses: Digital Teacher (DT) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). These courses are vital for the professional growth of teachers, focusing on enhancing their digital literacy and emotional intelligence.

The programme is meticulously structured to include a comprehensive longitudinal research and development process. This approach ensures continuous improvement and effectiveness in teaching methodologies. To support this, a pre-course survey and class observational sessions are conducted before the commencement of the in-person sessions. These preliminary assessments help understand the current competencies of the educators and set a benchmark for their development. Additionally, class observation sessions will be conducted after the course completion to evaluate the programme’s efficacy.

To ensure rigorous monitoring and evaluation, senior observers were identified with the assistance of the Presidents of NCOEs. SACTD and MGIEP recently conducted an in-person training session at SACTD for these 20 observers from NCOEs. Furthermore, SACTD identified six observers from the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) and other institutions. Two distinguished experts, Dr. Milosh Kankaras and Punam Bhora from UNESCO MGIEP, led the training.

These trained observers will conduct pre- and post-course observations of the intended participants of the MGIEP-SACTD joint programme, which is scheduled to begin on 6th August. This collaborative effort between MGIEP and SACTD is set to significantly elevate teaching standards in the South Asian region, fostering a culture of continuous professional development among educators.

This initiative not only aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of Teacher Educators but also aspires to create a lasting impact on the educational landscape in South Asia. Through rigorous training, assessment, and feedback processes, we are committed to advancing educational excellence and fostering sustainable development in the region.
