Overview

Transforming Teacher Education in Sri Lanka through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

MGIEP and the South Asian Center for Teacher Development (SACTD) are proud to announce an advanced national programme for South Asian Teacher Educators. Building on the success of a 2024 pilot, this initiative will scale Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) to all National Colleges of Education (NCOEs) and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) across Sri Lanka.

With the support of UNESCO MGIEP, this collaborative effort aims to embed SEL into the national teacher education system, empowering educators with essential life skills to foster well-being, empathy, and inclusive learning environments.

Our Approach

The programme begins with a Training of Trainers (ToT) for Master Trainers in June–July 2025, followed by a weekly SEL training cycle for all teacher educators from August to December 2025.

The structured approach ensures:

Capacity-building through intensive training and coaching.

Institutional integration of SEL into curricula.

Collaboration among government, education leaders, and institutions.

Continuous evaluation and policy alignment with national education goals.

Why SEL?
